Lot Leaves Avram

Avram and Lot came up from Mitzrayim rich in flocks and herds, and the land could not carry them both. Their shepherds fought over the pasture and the wells.

"And there was a quarrel between the shepherds of Avram's flocks and the shepherds of Lot's flocks."

Bereishis 13:7

Avram would not have strife between them. He took Lot up to a high place and offered him the whole land: choose a side, and I will take the other.

"Is not the whole land before you? Separate from me, please. If you go left I will go right, and if you go right I will go left."

Bereishis 13:9

Lot looked down at the plain of the Yarden, green and watered like a garden, and chose it. He pitched his tents toward Sedom. Avram stayed in Canaan.

"Avram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot settled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tents as far as Sedom."

Bereishis 13:12
