The Widow of Tzarfas

When the stream at Kerith dried up, Eliyahu was sent north to Tzarfas, near Tzidon. At the town gate he found a widow bent over, gathering sticks. He called out to her and asked for a little water.

"He arose and went to Tzarfas. He came to the entrance of the city, and there was a widow gathering sticks. He called to her and said, 'Please bring me a little water in a vessel, so I may drink.'"

Melachim Aleph 17:10

She had a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug, nothing more. She was gathering sticks to bake one last meal for herself and her son, and then they would die. Eliyahu told her not to be afraid, and to bake a small cake for him first.

"Eliyahu said to her, 'Do not be afraid. Go and do as you said, but first make me a small cake from it and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for yourself and your son.'"

Melachim Aleph 17:13

She did what he said. And every morning after that, there was flour in the jar and oil in the jug, for her, for her son and for Eliyahu, all through the drought.
