Dovid and Goliath

Two camps. One valley between them.

וְשָׁאוּל וְאִישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל נֶאֶסְפוּ וַיַּחֲנוּ בְּעֵמֶק הָאֵלָה וַיַּעַרְכוּ מִלְחָמָה לִקְרַאת פְּלִשְׁתִּים׃

שמואל א יז:ב

"Saul and the men of Israel massed and encamped in the valley of Elah, and they drew up their line of battle against the Philistines."

1 Samuel 17:2

Goliath steps out, six cubits tall.

וַיֵּצֵא אִישׁ־הַבֵּנַיִם מִמַּחֲנוֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּים גָּלְיָת שְׁמוֹ מִגַּת גָּבְהוֹ שֵׁשׁ אַמּוֹת וָזָרֶת׃

שמואל א יז:ד

"Then a champion came out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, six cubits and a span tall."

1 Samuel 17:4

A shepherd steps forward to fight.

וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל שָׁאוּל אַל־יִפֹּל לֵב אָדָם עָלָיו עַבְדְּךָ יֵלֵךְ וְנִלְחַם עִם־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי הַזֶּה׃

שמואל א יז:לב

"David said to Saul, 'Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight this Philistine.'"

1 Samuel 17:32

Five stones. A sling in his hand.

וַיִּקַּח מַקְלוֹ בְיָדוֹ וַיִּבְחַר־לוֹ חֲמִשָּׁה חַלֻּקֵי־אֲבָנִים מִן־הַנַּחַל וַיָּשֶׂם אֹתָם בִּכְלִי הָרֹעִים אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וּבַיַלְקוּט וְקַלְּעוֹ בְיָדוֹ וַיִּגַּשׁ אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי׃

שמואל א יז:מ

"He took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, placed them in his shepherd's bag, took his sling in his hand, and approached the Philistine."

1 Samuel 17:40

One stone. He falls facedown.

וַיִּשְׁלַח דָּוִד אֶת־יָדוֹ אֶל־הַכֶּלִי וַיִּקַּח מִשָּׁם אֶבֶן וַיְקַלַּע וַיַּךְ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי אֶל־מִצְחוֹ וַתִּטְבַּע הָאֶבֶן בְּמִצְחוֹ וַיִּפֹּל עַל־פָּנָיו אָרְצָה׃

שמואל א יז:מט

"David reached into his bag, took out a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown to the ground."
