Eisav and the Birthright

Eisav was a skilful hunter, a man of the field.

וַיִּגְדְּלוּ הַנְּעָרִים וַיְהִי עֵשָׂו אִישׁ יֹדֵעַ צַיִד אִישׁ שָׂדֶה וְיַעֲקֹב אִישׁ תָּם יֹשֵׁב אֹהָלִים׃

בראשית כה:כז

"When the boys grew up, Eisav became a skilful hunter, a man of the field; but Yaakov was a mild man, who stayed among the tents."

Genesis 25:27

Let me gulp down some of that red red stuff.

וַיֹּאמֶר עֵשָׂו אֶל יַעֲקֹב הַלְעִיטֵנִי נָא מִן הָאָדֹם הָאָדֹם הַזֶּה כִּי עָיֵף אָנֹכִי עַל כֵּן קָרָא שְׁמוֹ אֱדוֹם׃

בראשית כה:ל

"And Eisav said to Yaakov: let me gulp down some of that red red stuff, for I am famished. That is why he was named Edom."

Genesis 25:30

And she covered his hands with the skins of the kids.

וְאֵת עֹרֹת גְּדָיֵי הָעִזִּים הִלְבִּישָׁה עַל יָדָיו וְעַל חֶלְקַת צַוָּארָיו׃

בראשית כז:טז

"And she covered his hands, and the smooth of his neck, with the skins of the kids of the goats."
